Overview

Responsible for designing and delivering comprehensive education and training programs for agency staff on a wide range of medical and health-related topics. Courses include, but are not limited to: AMAP Training, AMAP Recertification, Infection Control, First Aid & Seizure Management, Bloodborne Pathogen Education, Tuberculosis Awareness, OPWDD Diabetes Management, Tube Feeding, and Colostomy Care.

Oversees and administers Mantoux (PPD) testing, including scheduling, test administration, and result interpretation. Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and maintains appropriate inventory and storage of testing materials.

Responsibilities

Primary duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

 

  • Schedules and facilitates agency training on various medical and health-related topics. These courses include, but are not limited to: AMAP Training, AMAP Recertification, Tube Feeding, Infection Control, First Aid & Seizure Training, Bloodborne Pathogen Education, Tuberculosis, OPWDD Diabetes Education, and Colostomy Bag Training.
  • Develops and updates training curricula and procedures in accordance with AHRC Nassau, Citizens Options Unlimited, Inc., and OPWDD regulations.
  • Administers and reads Mantoux (PPD) tests. Ensures appropriate staffing during all PPD testing hours and maintains adequate inventory of PPD serum and needles, ensuring proper storage and disposal.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Learning and Professional Development Department and external entities regarding medical training assignments for the workforce.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Required:

  • NYS Registered Nurse (RN) license and qualified NYS driver’s license, both maintained throughout employment
  • Demonstrated adult‑learning/training experience — able to plan, deliver, and evaluate training sessions
  • Strong public‑speaking/platform experience — comfortable presenting content and engaging groups
  • Supervisory experience managing both full‑time and per-diem RN trainers, including:
    • Scheduling
    • Performance evaluation
    • Quality assurance
    • Cross‑coverage
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills; ability to work independently and lead a team (including per‑diem staff with variable schedules)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred:

  • Experience with regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., SCIP, CPR certification, PPD/TB screenings, or other healthcare compliance training)
  • Certification as a CPR instructor, or ability to obtain such certification
  • Proficiency with educational technologies (e.g., slide presentations, LMS/tracking systems, competency documentation)
  • Prior experience working in the field of Intellectual/Developmental Disability

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

                Must be able to stand, walk, and move between locations to conduct training.

                  Requires occasional lifting of materials or equipment (up to 25 lbs.).

                  Must have good hand coordination for administering injections (e.g., PPD tests).

                  Ability to speak clearly in front of groups and use a computer regularly.

                  Must be able to drive to various sites, maintain a valid NYS driver’s license and remain qualified to operate a motor vehicle.

                  May work in classroom, office, and clinical settings with occasional exposure to medical materials (PPE provided).
