Overview

The College Intern will gain valuable hands-on experience in operational accounting and financial reporting within a large nonprofit organization. This internship provides exposure to day-to-day hands-on processes within Accounts Payable, Cash Receipts, Billing and Payroll, along with account reconciliations, cash management, analytics and audit preparation.

The College intern will work closely with accounting professionals to develop technical and soft skills along with an understanding of nonprofit financial operations.

Responsibilities

Primary duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

 

Financial Close Support:

  • Assist with preparing and inputting journal entries
  • Perform account reconciliations and basic financial analysis under supervision

 

Financial Operations:

  • Support accounts payable process by verifying invoices, matching purchase orders and assisting with filing administration
  • Assist with cash receipts processing, including remote deposit of checks, recording of receipts and applying payments to billed receivable.
  • Help with billing functions, including reconciliations.
  • Assist with Payroll related tasks within the Time & Attendance and Processing units of the payroll department.
  • Monitor banking activity and prepare electronic banking transactions for review.
  • Support fiscal and regulatory audits.

 

 

Financial Analytics:

  • Assist the FP&A team with data compilation and report generation.
  • Prepare analytics to gain insights into the business.

 

Other responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to the Administrative Assistant to the CFO.
  • Special projects as required.

Qualifications

Education and/ or experience required:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance 

Skills, Licenses and/ or competencies required:

  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles, Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word required.
  • Good interpersonal skills exhibited by the ability to communicate with staff, management, and other departments in a professional manner
  • Good skills in paying attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
