Overview

           

Under the supervision of the Greenhouse Manager, the Greenhouse Assistant will assist with daily operations in the greenhouse and property gardens, as well as support the gift shop, ensuring an enjoyable shopping experience including but not limited to general greenhouse duties, upkeep of the gift shop, restocking of merchandise and supplies, communication with customers, operation of a cash register, and occasional assistance with off-site events, as needed, (e.g. Farmers’ Market, Festivals/Fairs, etc.).

Responsibilities

Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

  1. Assist with the care and maintenance of trees, plants, flowers, and vegetables in the greenhouse and outside gardens, including watering, pruning, and repotting.
  2. Monitor plant health and notify the greenhouse manager of any pest or disease issues.
  3. Maintain cleanliness and organization in the greenhouse area and surrounding gardens.
  4. Assist with restocking and inventory management, ensuring products are properly stocked, labeled, and priced.
  5. Assist with the upkeep of outdoor plant displays, raised boxes and beds, vegetable gardens, and other related areas.
  6. Greet customers and provide friendly service regarding greenhouse and gift shop products, including plants, flowers, garden supplies, home décor, garden accessories, and unique gifts.
  7. Process customer transactions using the point-of-sale (POS) system.
  8. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the greenhouse and gift shop areas by cleaning, dusting, sweeping, and taking out garbage, as needed.
  9. Attend off-site events to assist with set up, customer service, sales, and cleanup, as needed.
  10. Support the planning and execution of special events, workshops, or promotions related to gardening and plant care.
  11. Maintain a positive, customer-friendly attitude at all times.
  12. Perform other duties as requested by supervisor and/or administration.

 

 

Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  2. Ability to follow verbal and written directions, perform assigned related tasks with minimal supervision.
  3. Basic knowledge of plant care and gardening tools is a plus.
  4. Ability to complete basic math skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Flexibility and willingness to learn.
  7. Availability to work weekends, holidays, or evenings as required.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  1. Physically able to move, stand, reach, and grab for 2 consecutive hours or more.
  2. May occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  3. May be required to stand and/or sit for long periods of time.
  4. Ability to lift items up to 25lbs.
